Wow. Really. Just wow. This place was… Well, Myu really couldn’t decide. Was it better than the old Valley? Could she compare it to Emyprean Valley? She hadn’t quite decided yet. She was used to the moving about, seeing as she did it once before, but it was obvious to her Emyprean was a lot better than where she was born. She had thought about it for some time, but finally decided it wasn’t worth thinking about. She scoffed at the idea of thinking it was important, land was land, as long as she had a den to sleep in now, Myu was fine.
So, instead of philosophizing, she went off to hunt. She was thankful to have some healthy prey, and she savoured the taste of good meat and blood. But then she didn’t know what to do. She knew the new Falling Moon land like the back of her paw already(seeing as it would be useful), so she guessed it would help if she knew her way about No Man’s Land as well. So she did, deciding it would give her something to do and run off any stress she might have buried inside. God knows she did.
She planned on starting off at a slow pace, but she was off running as soon as she came to the land’s border. Being able to run as fast as she wanted without hearing the annoying ‘wait up’ behind her. The wind running through her fur, the warm sun peeking through the leaves to create her a path. She was happy one of the rare thunderstorm wasn’t going to come any time soon. Well… Hopefully. Thunderstorms were random, which was why they were rare right now. Slowing her pace to a jog, Myu looked around. Seemed like she was in the forest. Snorting at her own sarcasm, she smelled the air for any scents. She knew the Falling Moon scents, but the wolf didn’t know any of the wolves from Caden’s pack. What a name. Caden. Haha, now she was just being childish.
Finally stopping, she looked round behind her in case there was someone following her, but wondered who would. Would it be a Dancing Star attempting to take a Falling Moon down before she could do anything? Snorting at the thought, Myu sat down and waited. Someone would catch her scent. Hopefully it was someone she liked.

Things had changed. So very, very much. And so quickly too. This time last year, almost to the day, Duke had been awaiting Anevay's arrival. Some part of him had told him to go looking for her in Empyrean valley. He'd howled and searched for hours and when the earthquake struck, he was sure she was dead.
Just like that.
Then there was his other pups. Rose was still alive, walking by his side now in fact, as was Tallulah but he didn't know where she was. Duke spent so much of his time deep in thought, letting the memories rip at his raw wounds over and over because to him it was better than feeling nothing.
Rose was the complete opposite, and this was how she spent most of her days. She'd sewn up her shattered heart with new memories, forcing herself to act and smile every day so she didn't think of what she'd lost. Duke was so lost in thought that Rose had become his automatic eyes and ears; sometimes she felt like just as much of an Alpha as him. Although they'd never voice this, he was too proud and she too doting.
So when Rose saw Myu ahead, she smiled for Duke and a soft growl escaped her throat in greeting. Duke was barely with it, large shoulders rolling as he walked. Rose did not touch him, simply coughed politely and he snapped out of his reverie, looking up at Myu.
Usually Rose gave him better warning than that, but he was not be put off. It was Myu, at least he knew her. The two monotone wolves slowed to a stop in front of Myu. "Hello," Rose greeted her first, tone so flawlessly friendly and happy you could barely tell she was broken. Duke did not respond to Rose's elegant voice. "Myu," he said slowly, dipping his head and sitting down, scowling at the ground like usual. The expression was so fitted to his features now, a smile seemed not to fit. Rose sat down too, but much more slowly and calmly.

Slowly turning round when she heard footsteps, seeing as there was nothing else to hear in the lovely afternoon, the corner of Myu’s lips twitched when she seen Duke and Rose. She liked Duke, she really liked Duke, although she would never admit that much. She made herself believe she liked him as a friend, someone she could talk to comfortably and hopefully he felt like that too. She looked at Duke for a moment, knowing he was still sad about Anevay… His mate. The mate. What about her own mate? What about him? She was sad, sure, but she got over it quickly… Myu still thought about him, but not as often as she used to. There was no point in dwelling in the past, although that didn’t seem like how Duke thought. Perhaps he just loved Anevay a whole lot more than Myu could love anyone.
She nodded back, “Duke.” she greeted him the same way. If he was going to be sulky, then she would act like that too. Myu smiled a bit at Rose, nodding to her as well. “Hello.” she said back, tail wagging a bit behind her. It hurt. During the earthquake a rock almost took off a bit of her tail, she didn’t really know if she was missing a tiny bit. “How are you both?” Myu was ignoring the fact they would be sad about their losses. Rose seemed to be okay, though… Now that was what a true Falling Moon did. Myu knew Duke was a true Falling Moon, seeing as he was still the Alpha, but he was giving everyone a bad example.

Duke looked up and watched Myu as she spoke and greeted him. It was funny how she responded to him the same way he responded to her. He imagined it was simply because he was the Alpha, and his pack had to take it in their stride.
He was pathetic, he knew it. But no one would argue with him. He was nearly always moody or angry, everyone was used to that. Still he sighed, still watching Myu and he narrowed his eyes, although not out of hatred. He just understood how he looked through her eyes. "Stop scrutinizing me, Myu," he snorted slightly, still managing to sound humourous in his husky deep voice.
Rose glanced sideways at her father, and then back at Myu. She ignored her father's comments. He always liked it best when she didn't say much to him. They understood each other a lot better when neither opened their mouths. "I'm great thanks, Myu," Rose even wagged her tail a little, still managing to look classy and sophisticated whilst being happy. She smiled dazzlingly. "Daddy and I love these new lands. Lots of walking. What're you doing out here?" she asked politely.
Duke sighed, exhasperated. He'd never give Rose's act away but he knew it was all fake. Despite this, he heard her words and thought about Myu. What was she doing out here? Easy. "She was running," he said without a notion of doubt. It surprised him how sure he was of that. He looked away, embarrassed by shrugging off the feeling and keeping his face blank.

Myu would have said something witty like ‘I could say the same thing to you’ but, really, that wasn’t witty at all. Myu wasn’t really one for wit, more getting it over and done with. Short blows, ones that she knew were small but hurt. She smiled a bit, noticing the little bit of humour in his voice. Myu was… Well, she wasn’t exactly proud, but happy for him wasn’t right either. It was just a little feeling for him(that she knew was not attraction) after hearing it. Maybe hope? Myu diminished the thought. She would not feel hope for anyone, she didn’t need to rely on anyone. The thought of having someone to stick up for her made Myu feel sick. It was a sign of weakness, having someone defend you instead of doing it yourself. Some could say she was a hypocrite, being in a pack instead of being a loner, but Myu didn’t rely on the others, so it was all good.
Myu was glad Rose was great. Sometimes Myu could admit to herself she was jealous of the female. She was very pretty and was just about prefect when it came to emotions. She was healing very quickly, and it never came to Myu that she could be faking it. If Myu did know, then it was subconsciously. Ready to reply to her question, her mouth only a quarter of the way open, Myu looked at Duke again when he answered for her. She clamped her mouth shut, back straightening as she wondered how he knew. Obviously he just knew her well enough…It made her feel slightly uncomfortable, but refused to show it. “Yes. What he said.” she gestured to Rose’s father, glancing almost suspiciously at Duke for only a second before looking at Rose. “Have you walked many places so far?” she asked.
Myu wasn’t too curious, she just didn’t want silence engulfing them. She refused to sit in awkward silence with what could be a potential female friend, although she did seem a bit… Too cheery. But usually that was her personality, right? Myu couldn’t remember much from before the earthquake, really. She didn’t care about that, the past was the past. Everything burns, no need to worry about it.

Rose's cheerful expression slowly melted away, and she frowned as she glanced sideways at her father. This was not a good sign. Her father never took interest in anyone other than himself and his daughters. The pack was more of her thing, she was the one who cared. Her father may be the head, but she was the neck- she turned him any way she wanted.
Why did he know this about Myu?
Of course she was not aware that her father had ever had feelings for Myu. Duke himself knew it, but it was one of those uncomfortable subjects even within the confines of his mind. Sure, Myu was pretty, but many females were. There was something about her which had sparked Duke's curiosity, though, and it always seemed like they'd been so close and yet so far. Then with Anevay... well that had complicated things.
And then there was Rhyfel. Duke hadn't hated Rhyfel as much as he thought he would, because deep down he knew that Rhyfel had managed to lift Myu out of her misery and make her happy. Duke liked it when Myu was happy. He was selfish enough to have liked it better when Rhyfel died and Myu came back.
He looked up at her, dark eyes boring into her as she spoke something of no consequence. Rose looked at his expression in confusion, and when he realised this, he turned away as if bored. Rose did not, could not relax, her mother's face dancing in front of her eyes. She coughed and realised she hadn't answered Myu's question. "Well," she began, tone not so cheery. She sensed that Myu did not appreciate the cheeriness so much. Rose put on a slightly more serious voice, smiling demurely and elegantly instead. She was good at being whatever her audience needed her to be. "We've gone all over our new lands, really. Daddy suggested we checked out No Man's Land, too." she finished, smiling only slightly. Tone down the happiness, she felt that Myu thought it didn't fit with the Falling Moons.
At most, the Moons were content. Happiness was rare and if it did exist, unspoken of in their pack. Bitterness and anger were common, and more well accepted by the thick-skinned Moons wolves. Rose knew that.

The way Rose could change how she was around others was quite impressive, but it also made Myu feel good. Like she was in power, she liked to think Rose was doing it to please her, but knew that Rose probably did it with others as well. Oh well, Myu liked how she thought, but was quite proud of herself that she knew it wasn’t just her. Myu wasn’t that egotistical, far from it really. Almost any Falling Moon would know that… Unless it came to fighting. Although Rose was a good actress, the way she said daddy… It made her sound like a child. Technically she could be, but really. It made her sound like a spoiled brat, and if she expected anyone to call him that, it was Tallula.
“Well, do you and daddy like what you see so far?” she asked, mainly to tease Rose. She didn’t really care if any of them took it to heart, but then she thought that over. Did she want Duke to be annoyed? Hmph, she could care less, but something was nagging at her that she did care. Of course she cared, she just didn’t want to admit it. She hated the fact that she loved again, that feeling was so complicated. It changed her in ways she didn’t want to, but it also helped her learn new things. There were pros and cons, and right now she wanted to find all the cons. Glancing at Duke again, wondering if he’d show a reaction instead of just sitting there gloomily, pretending to be uninterested, Myu decided not to let her tease be the argument-starter. He was still the alpha, after all, not just a friend. It made things kind of complicated.
“I know I do.” she mused, admiring the scenery. Well, there wasn’t really much to it. Just trees, but the rest of the land was nice. So far, “It’s quite a change to our old lands.” She didn’t know if this would bring back any memories for them. It didn’t for Myu, she had blocked most of the memories out. At least thinking of the earthquake didn’t relate to Rhyfel’s death, that was something completely different and it happened a bit before it. Deep down she was sad about it… Deep down.
Myu’s ear twitched when she heard a bird chirp. It made the scene a little more peaceful, and the happy chirping slowly died away as the bird flew off, twirling and gliding to it’s destination; far from the three wolves. She would have done the same if she was a bird and seen herself. Now she was a bit hungry, but not enough to go after it. [/size]

Rose sensed that she did not need to be quite so much of a bullsh*tter around Myu. Eventually, possibly, she could just tell her that she acted up the way she did because it was better than feeling that empty, crushed feeling she had before. She'd once stepped on a bird shell with a hole in it, hearing it crack beneath her paw she had looked down and been surprised to find nothing inside. She was like that now, broken and brittle and empty inside. It would surprised everyone else if they found out, too.
She smirked when Myu made fun of her for saying daddy. Myu wouldn't understand, though, she didn't spend every second trying to keep her father in emotional balance. She knew that saying daddy was what Duke wanted.
It was what Duke wanted. He liked to feel like his daughters loved him, that they could come crying to him if anyone dared to hurt them. He wanted to be that emotionally open to them, if no one else. Maybe... maybe Myu.
He looked up at her, studying her again. Rose noticed out of her peripheral vision, still smirking in amusement at Myu but beneath it feeling irritated. She knew her father was not smart, he did not want spring to roll around again without him having a mate. He knew how to keep a pack going- pups and good land. Rose feared he would bring his pack down with him if he chose a mate just for the sake of it.
"They are quite impressive. It's bigger than last time, too," she commented, dark eyes looking around the forest as the sun glittered through the trees. "A lot more visually dynamic too." she said. When Duke said nothing, his eyes wandering around as hers did but not actually seeing anything, she turned her head like a snap to him. "Oh, stop brooding, daddy," she said drily, managing to throw a hint of dark humour in there. Duke looked up, exhaling as if trying to sum up enough energy, and then he finally looked a little switched on, sitting up in his massive form. "I'm not brooding, I'm scowling around," he repeated the same dark, humorous tone as Rose had used previously. "I feel as if there is nothing much going on. I want to change that." he growled, as he usually did when he spoke.

Myu really didn’t understand. She never had a father that wanted her to show she loved him, he was too busy trying to be the top wolf for that. Not that she was going to go on about her terrible past, if anything she saw it as eventful, but she just wasn’t the type to dwell on her puphood for too long. It was a subject that didn’t interest her much and perhaps made her feel a little down. A touchy subject, anyway. Myu noticed Duke studying her but decided to ignore, trying to bury the feelings of embarrassment and curiosity. Usually he wouldn’t study people unless he didn’t know them… Was he trying to find a difference in her? Was he just bored? Myu mentally shrugged it off.
Nodding in agreement, she looked at Rose. She was elegant, and Myu really needed to stop talking about her. She was putting herself down by doing so, and she didn’t want that. No one wanted a low self-esteem Myu, it was uncharacteristic. But she did many other things that was uncharacteristic and she didn’t take note of them, did she have a reason? No, not really. Love was never a good reason to be different, besides, love only lasted a while. She really hoped that was what this kind of love was. Oh god, what kind of love? There was no love, there was no attraction, there were just two friends confused and sad about their losses.
She smiled a bit when Duke spoke. Finally. Scowling around? That was like the old Duke, Myu was glad. She knew just a conversation wouldn’t be able to change him completely, but this was something. She scowled mentally, she was caring too much about him. Myu shouldn’t be bothered with how he was acting unless it affected the pack… What pack? It was very small right now. And those were the key words; ‘right now’. Soon the pack will flourish and they will take over the Valley. That was the typical plan and they weren’t going to change it.
“Well, if you want to change it, you shouldn’t be scowling around.” Myu pointed out. Sure, she was indicating that they could do something productive and find some loners, but she doubted they’d find any loners so soon. It seemed the Dancing Stars were only Caden, his sister that she couldn’t recall and some goody-two-shoes wolves that decided they didn’t like Duke. She was affronted that they didn’t like his way of thinking, and immediately hid that feeling when she first felt it. She was almost embarrassed about it, but really she just didn’t want to go through the whole unrequited love thing again because, to be honest... It sucked.

Myu had taken the words right out of Rose's mouth. Odd, because usually those Rose spoke with were not on the same mental wavelength as her. Being clever sometimes had its downsides like that. Still, she smiled again, eyes darting to Myu. The shewolf made sense.
Duke sneered at Myu, but somehow the immature expression on his broad and hard face made it seem less childish. Any negative expression seemed to work well on Duke's features. "The pack will expand eventually. There's a bit difference between travellers and loners- loner seek company, travellers seek packs. And there are many, many travellers since the earthquake hit. We may get some old friends back after all," he smirked at nothing in particular, taking his eyes away from Myu for a minute to look around.
A strange thought suddenly occurred to him. What if Myu had been his Anevay? The thought made his blood run cold and his heart pump faster at the same time, like pushing slush through his veins. What if Myu had been the one to stand up to Cocoa with him, to claim the second Alpha position for herself? What if he'd led the uprising with her, had pups with her? Would he have ever cared about Anevay as he did?
What a strange and chilling thought to think that his pups would not have been born. But different, silvery-tanned pups would be running at their feet. He looked back at Myu and considered. Now that there was no Anevay, and his pups were grown, would it make a difference who he fell for?
Rose watched his changing expressions with deep-set suspicion. Of all the time she'd spent with him, learning his expressions so she could interpret his feelings without saying a word, she was lost now. She did not recognise what he was thinking and it irritated her. So she turned her attention back to Myu, sighing and rolling her eyes. "I'm afraid it's mostly my job to welcome anyone into the pack," she laughed lightly. "Mostly, though, I don't mind. I like new faces." she smiled. Nobody knew how much that was a lie. She wanted the old faces back so very much.

Travellers and loners. Myu didn’t really see a difference between them, they were alone, they wandered about, that was it. Loners may want a pack too, and not every loner wanted company. Not wanting to get too deep into it, she stayed silent, although disagreement showed in her eyes. It didn’t really matter, though. What alpha says is rule, he was like a god, really… Except less of the sparkles and light whenever he came into sight. If that did happen, Myu didn’t know what to think.
Old friends. What old friends? Myu then knew that Duke probably had more friends than Myu, which was something. Who did Myu have to talk to apart from Duke? Really, there was no one, and Myu made a note to try and at least say hello to any new pack members that arrive. It was easier said and done, Myu liked her space and was nervous a wolf might not know that… Well, she would just show them if they got too close. She had no idea what Duke was thinking, and if she knew she would probably be disturbed and then think about it later. Pups were certainly not her thing, but would she be able to have them to keep the pack running if, by some small chance, she became Alpha or Beta? It wasn’t really a decision if you were a high ranking wolf, but as Delta or Omega you didn’t have to… As long as others were pregnant, she was off the hook. Hopefully she would be next Spring.
Myu looked at Rose as she spoke, deciding not to trouble herself with Duke. If he was just going to stay silent and stare at different things, then she’d let him. It irked her that he wouldn’t speak, but whatever. She would leave him to his business. She smiled properly, but didn’t join in the laughing. She just couldn’t be bothered, and she wasn’t one to laugh unless it was at someone. Myu certainly wasn’t going to laugh at Rose. “Well, I suppose I agree…” she said, “But I think we like seeing new faces for different reasons. It would be nice to see some wolves we know, though.” Myu’s reason to liking new faces was so she could see what they were made of. But seeing wolves they knew from before would be… Comforting. She didn’t want to have to live a whole new life with different enemies, some old ones would be perfect. The new 'Dancing Stars' alpha really wasn't what Myu wanted. And, to be honest, Myu knew Caden wouldn't live up to Caerwyn's standards. No one could do what he did.

Rose was a little more tuned in suddenly. Myu thought their reasons for liking new faces were different? For the first time in a long time, Rose was a little curious to see what someone else was thinking. For the first time in a long time she cared a little. In a way, she already counted Myu as a friend because of this.
Duke frowned a little, turning and watching the conversation between Rose and Myu. It wasn't a scowl, but it wasn't a smile, and his expression definitely wasn't blank. He looked as if he was thinking of something to say, to somehow slot himself into the conversation. Rose was aware of this, but spoke anyway.
"So why do you like seeing new faces?" she asked, smiling. Take a guess, take a guess, Rose told herself. "Sizing them up, maybe?" she guessed, wondering if she was close. Duke cleared his throat, finally, and Rose looked sideways at him. "I prefer familiar faces," he contradicted. "New wolves are too much trouble and you never know if you can actually trust them or not. Familiar wolves are so much easier, you know where you stand with them."
Rose considered this, but her father went on. "My pack has essentially always been made up of the vindictive, the rude, the violent, the insane and the untrustworthy. The familiar faces are usually the only trustworthy ones, and that's comforting to an Alpha," he said, his tone not dark but simply matter-of fact. "Still, those traits usually breed for better fighters and better fighters means better lands."
Rose pondered this. She was probably vindictive. If she had anything to be vindictive about. Not many wolves dared to cross her, and if they did she guessed she'd want revenge. She was rude, occasionally. Violent when she wanted to be, definitely violent in her thoughts. Her sanity was questionable, seeing as it was threaded together with lies. The lies also made her wholly untrustworthy to anyone but her father.
Hah, she thought drily. I'm a true Falling Moon, by my father's description.

Well, Rose sounded almost curious. Myu nodded. “Yeah, that’s one reason.” she said, thinking for a moment, “But with others we know, you learn their fighting style a bit too easily… Meeting new people means new challenges.” She paused, deciding that was really the only reason she liked new wolves. She preferred new to old, but she was very close to being indecisive. Myu looked at Duke after she had finished speaking, listening to what he had to say. That wasn’t really true, you could know a wolf for years and they could have always lied to you from the very beginning. Again, Myu didn’t bother to mention it.
Oh, well, gee, thanks Duke. She thought bitterly. Although she liked his blunt honesty. Sure enough Myu was all those things, although the insane part slightly hurt her(even if it was close to the truth). She was certainly spiteful, rude and, well, there wasn’t any reason to question whether she was violent or not. Any moron could tell she was. And insane, she had that covered, but untrustworthy? Well, Myu couldn’t remember lying before. She was very open about herself(apart from her history), but she supposed being a Falling Moon automatically made her untrustworthy if you wanted to be stereotypical.
She could feel her back paws going numb. Flexing her toes, claws scraping the ground, Myu felt the urge for conversation to continue. Duke could kill conversation too easily, she mused. Deciding the silence had gone on long enough for there to be a subject change, Myu spoke up. “How’s Tallulah doing?”

Duke almost chuckled outwardly at Rose and Myu's expressions, no doubt contemplating whether they fit into his pack quota or not. He definitely chuckled inwardly.
He himself was very vindictive. He remembered how much he'd wanted to kill Caerwyn after hearing what he'd done to... to Iris. He flinched at the double sided knife that thought brought with it. His lost daughter, and what had happened to her before the earthquake had struck.
He was definitely rude, and violent- those went without question. Insane, most likely, for willingly choosing to run a pack such as this. Untrustworthy? Not so much. You pretty much got what you asked for with Duke.
At the sound of Rose's little sister, her lip curled but only slightly. It wasn't an unusual reaction. Tallulah and Rose were very similar in some ways and vastly different in others. Because of this closeness in some parts of their personality, Rose did not have a very high opinion of her little sister. She supposed she loved her, she had to, but they were no friends in her eyes.
Duke, of course, loved Tallulah despite her personality flaws. Just as he loved Rose, despite her constant lies only he seemed to see through. It was unquestionable what he would give up for his remaining daughters. "Tallulah is well, as far as I know," Duke smiled slightly. "Adjusting to the lands as we all are. Probably bugging Justyn or something, trying for any male's attention she passes." he reminded himself of something, then. "I'll have to keep her out of the company of Dancing Stars. No doubt she'll crave their attention as much as ours," he chuckled darkly.
Rose turned to Myu and decided to ask a spontaneous question. "What do you think of Tallulah?" she asked, her tone neither cold nor comforting. It was simply conversational.

She smiled slightly. Young wolves weren’t as… affected as the older wolves were after the earthquake, it seems. Being young’uns, they probably didn’t have many friends apart from their siblings. Nothing was wrong with Tallulah going into Dancing Stars and leading a few males into the middle of no where. It could be very useful, in fact. But Myu didn’t even know if there were any Dancing Stars, other than the siblings. No wait, there were a few that went to Cayden after they arrived at the valley! Myu didn’t know their names. During the time they had travelled, Myu didn’t really talk with anyone. She was mostly silent, hunting what she could and only sharing with those she wanted to. If she did talk, however, she tried to talk to only Duke. He was the only one she really liked to talk to, but sometimes she had to talk to others. If that was the case, Myu made sure it was only Falling Moons.
Brought out of her thoughts by Rose’s question, she snapped her head at the female and hesitated. She didn’t like Tallulah, she thought she was a stuck up brat, but how could she admit that to Duke? Myu didn’t know the relationship between her and Rose, so she wasn’t quite sure if she could admit that to her. But at the same time, Myu was brutally honest. Would she betray her own personality just to keep in Duke’s good books? “Well…” Myu would make sure to word this correctly, “You probably know she’s not the type of wolf I’d get along with anyway. She irks me, I suppose….” Nah.
Myu didn’t bother looking at Duke. She really couldn’t be bothered if his expression changed to one of anger, if he didn’t like her honesty, then so be it. That was just how Myu was. He knew that, probably, so there was no reason to get angry. Well, in Myu’s eyes. She didn’t know what it was like to have someone say they didn’t like her daughter considering she didn’t have one.
