"Yes. We can," he responded, this time putting obvious trust in his new ally. He still wasn't strong enough to use the word friend. Friends might be pushing it anyways, he wasn't really sure with Rose. Maybe she was just looking for someone to have "friendly arguments" with. Either way, whatever it was she wanted out of him, he was sure of one thing: he'd probably give it to her. She was a positive influence on him, as if her harsh words somehow had a kind edge to them, and was chiseling away the ice around his heart. Maybe she was lying to him, maybe it was just the fact that she was a beautiful princess who knew how to get what she wanted out of people that vexed him. But Justyn didn't care who she was because she helped make the anger go away, like a drug.
"I'll continue to live the role I've created for myself. A powerful and corrupted wolf who should have been killed as a Dancing Star, with his family. But the act can only last for so long; I want to find something in my life again to look forward to."
The air was still hot and dry, and the water had long since been heated up by the sun. But it did help to keep him cool from the Summer heat as it licked at his belly and legs. He'd never look at this ugly marsh the same, though. This was where he had taken a new turn.
"Then again, I'm sure we all wish for something like that."

She knew it was different for Justyn. From the way he phrased it, somehow she'd affected him enough for him to realise that his anger and therefore his charade would not last for long. And when he was ready to move on, she'd let him. She would never hold him back, he deserved better than that.
She smiled slightly, weakly. It was strange to think that one day she'd be all alone again. When Duke eventually bit off more than he could chew, and got himself killed. When Justyn's fuse burnt out and he moved on. She'd have the memories, though, and maybe she'd find someone else to be happy for.
She wasn't really sure what to say, she took a deep breath and realised she was still half-poised to turn and walk away from their previous disagreement. It was funny, they'd managed to form a bond despite the arguments. She turned back slowly and faced him, wondering what happened now. "I think I should go," she announced, feeling unsure. She gazed at him with her dark eyes, full of questions she wasn't sure how to phrase. She needed to go and check on her father again.

He starting taking steps backwards, feeling the mud squish between his toes. He was getting hungry himself, and a hungry Justyn was cause for a grumpy Justyn. And he didn't want to be grumpy with Rose right now, not after they had just established and alliance.
"See you later," he agreed, blinking his brown and yellow eyes casually. And then he, too, turned his body, his back facing Rose, and began to trot away through the water.
He'd probably be having nightmares tonight as well. Never before had he talked this much about his family or himself in so little time. And definately never to this extent. The memories would come back fresh to him, like everything was still happening, and he was going to mentally prepare himself for it.
