Naila sat with her head down, sniffing the ground. Her ears were perked just in case any other wolf came near her. She hated being the Omega, but she knew that she had to prove to Duke...and only to Duke, to move up in the pack.
Ever since she had found her way back to the Falling Moons pack, she has been silently watching if anything had changed. She still wasn't sure if her family knew that she was even here or not...but it didn't really matter to her either way. She didn't mind. All she wanted to do was become as strong as any male in this pack, and she had the mind set to do it too.
She didn't want others to think that she was weak...that was for sure. So she kept her head down, listening and watching silently, for a chance to prove that she wasn't an ordinary Omega.

While Duke was always thoroughly overprotective of his family, and especially the new and vulnerable pups he had, he also knew that Myu needed space. Well, he assumed she did. Soon enough she would be out of the cave, and he knew that she knew that he would call a hunt for her any time she needed food. So he felt quite self-assured in his duties as he began to roam his lands again, keeping an eye on his pack.
So when he lumbered across the Sloped Clearing and saw a young female, his mind clocked her. She was fairly new to this valley, but an old seed. Her parents he couldn't remember, but he had a funny feeling that she was related to someone within the pack. With Rose out of action, Duke had no inner intelligence of the pack, and he so hated to try and keep track of them all by himself. Still, now was a good time to gather some information.
He could tell that she was alert, looking for approaching wolves. So he continued forwards, muscles rolling under his duotone pelt, and eventually stopped, staring at her dead in the eyes. She looked a little cautious, but there seemed a grim determination in her expression. Duke however was not a mind reader, and did not have the time to try and be, so instead he simply stood there and waited to see how she would react.

Naila smelt a wolf. She flicked her ears and looked up. Before her was Duke, the Alpha. Right away she put her ears back and dipped her head, but she didn't keep her eyes off of his. She wasn't about to mess up her chance to prove that she was strong. So she gradually stood straight and kept her self looking prideful.
She looked at him, looking at his fur and features. He was a strong wolf and she envied the honor that he had, but was also proud to be apart of his pack. The Falling Moons as a proud pack. She looked into his eyes, he seemed to be wondering something, but she wasn't about to speak unless he spoke first. She didn't want to mess anything up.

Duke always enjoyed the respect of other wolves. When he was younger, he settled for fear, but as he'd grown older he had realised how he enjoyed both powers. Most Alphas would, at this stage, probably speak to put the lower wolf at ease, or even dip their heads to acknowledge their submission. He watched as she slowly lifted her head, and part of him recognised that she did indeed have a backbone.
"Hello," he growled, not attempting to be threatening. His voice was naturally very low and grumbly. He sat down slowly, glancing away before looking back at the young female. "What's your name again? You're from the old valley."
He was not a wolf of many words. In fact, he was just confirming what he already knew, but he was curious to learn her name. There must be some kind of value in getting to know your pack members, even if he didn't promote being best friends with your subordinates. If they didn't like that, they could leave. He wouldn't be afraid to snap at their heels as they did so.

She had fully sat up, and was feeling better as Duke sat down. She didn't feel threatened anymore. When he spoke, his voice sent shivers down her spine. His voice was powerful and would make any wolf respect him. She was jealous and wished that she had that same authority. When he asked her name, she tried to speak with some...dignity. "Naila."
She remembered her mother always telling her that Duke was someone to respect. But her mother didn't really know much about respect. Her father had told Naila that her mother was a stubborn wolf with almost no trust in other wolves. But he did say that Almira was deeply in love with him and that was good enough for him.
She also wondered what happened to her family...after she was separated from them, she didn't think about looking for them...just assuming that they were dead. She got the urge to look for them, but wasn't about to leave when her alpha was speaking to her! No, that would end up in a fight that she didn't want to have.

Duke took her in a little more as she said her name. Naila. She was young, pretty, seemed to have her head screwed on right. Had a good sense of self-preservation if she was being this respectful. But Duke also sensed something fearful in her, as if she wasn't quite sure of her footing yet. She'd find her place, soon enough. He partly wondered if she was strong enough to do so.
"Naila," he repeated with a gruff nod. He still couldn't entirely place her, though. He'd probably known her before, when she was just a pup. And wolves always looked different after adolescence. He had no time for guessing games, so asked outright; "Who are your parents? Or were, if that be the case..."
He knew the earthquake was a sore subject for most wolves. But it was over a year since it had happened and they had all moved away. Duke was just surprised how many had come back from Empyrean Valley. Perhaps the earthquake had not done quite so much damage as they had expected. Which meant more followers for Duke, no doubt, but Caden was not a stupid wolf from what Duke had heard. No doubt also that he would be gathering followers from the old valley too.

"My parents are Almira and Josiah, I don't know if they are alive though. I was separated from them when the earthquake struck." She looked at him. She wondered if he knew her parents...if they had been friends, acquaintances, or something like that. She watched his eyes as they watched her.
Making sure to keep herself submissive, and yet proud at the same time she dipped her head again, to show that she was still just an omega, even though she knew that she was beta material, and she was determined to prove it to him. Perhaps when a hunting party went out.

Duke's ears flickered with interest at the mention of her parents' names. She has no idea what kind of a warzone she's entered into, he thought briefly, and even in his head his voice was dry and gruff. Truly, he didn't really care. He wasn't sure how much potential he could see in her right now.
"Almira may well still be here. She rejoined the pack when we travelled from Empyrean Valley," he kept his words clipped, his diction almost imperative without even giving orders. "But I haven't seen her for weeks. She may well have left."
He wondered briefly if he should mention Fallon. Naila's parents were Fallon's parents, as he had found out not so long ago. How funny that they had both stumbled back to their birth pack. He wondered if they had not been born under his rule, would they have returned? The thought often came to him, a curiosity about every wolf that had been born in his pack. Even his own pups.
"Josiah used to be my Beta. Funny, I would've thought he would've told you that," Duke began, tipping his head very slightly. He had made up his mind to test her emotional levels. "You sister Fallon knows, after all. She told me the other day."

Naila's ears pricked as the mention of her mother still being here. She put her ears back again as she remembered what a bitch her mother was. When Duke mentioned Fallon, Naila stared at him. Her sister was here...in this pack...inside, Naila was fuming with excitement and curiosity. On the outside, she was stiff. She wasn't sure what to show and how much to show. Her ears pricked a little, but went back down.
She wanted to see Fallon. She wanted know how her sister was doing! But she wanted her sister to find her. Fallon always thought of Naila as a weak-minded pup, and to go looking for Fallon would only prove to her sister that Naila was weak-minded and couldn't live alone. Not something Naila wanted. So she kept herself stiff and sturdy as the conversation continued. "It's good to know that my sister and mother are still alive. Obviously Fallon is doing well, since she is not dead."She couldn't say the same for her mother. Her mother was as dead to her as she was before.

Duke watched her carefully. He could sense her interest, but an idiot would have to think that she would not be interested in long-lost family. He could only imagine what he would be like if one of his pups showed up, but he did not dwell on thoughts like that. They were as dead to him as one could imagine. It was the only way of continuing on, sane.
She seemed so determined to be emotionless, to be strong, that it made the spiteful part of him want to pull the emotions out of her. When he met wolves so unwilling to show vulnerability it made him want to tear them down. He had always been a bully in that way- standing on the weak to get to the strong. The real, worthy enemies.
But only time would tell. Sometimes the quiet ones were the most vicious when they snapped. Perhaps she was still in mourning of those she'd lost, or in shock of those she was about to find. Either way, Duke was now bored, and it seemed she had nothing more to show him. He'd done his intelligence gathering for now. With a gruff growl of goodbye, and absolutely no more words, he simply turned around and continued on the way he'd been going when he came across her.
OOC. Hope it's okay that Duke's leaving! Feel free to start a new thread, or you can invite someone to come join this one if you want (: But Duke is now outttt, haha.
