Once, I was lost To the point of disgust I had in my sight Lack of vision, lack of light Riverrush cave was icy, compared to the rest of the valley. At the very base of the cliff, little light managed to sneak in past the cave's narrow entrance, and as the pathway to the main cave sank deeper beneath the river, it became increasingly dark. Rivulets carved into the cave's walls by long-gone drips of mossy water appeared like claw-marks when placed in the shadowy light of the cave, and somehow gave it a slightly sinister appearance.
All in all, it was a perfect spot for Kinaki to spend his time. Recently, he'd taken to staying in the cave for most of the day, as few wolves ever came to the damp, dark hole-in-the-ground that was Rivverrush Cave, so he was rarely disturbed. However, there were the times when his anger got the better of his reason and logic, and he felt the need to hurt something. He'd come out of the cave then, in search of something to maul. Something to sink his claws into.
However, recently he'd found that this gave him less and less satisfaction. It had once been that he felt that by hurting others, it would make him slightly better. By taking away from happy wolves what had been taken away from him when he was once a happy wolf, he'd once felt relieved. Now, however, it no longer seemed to have any effect whatsoever. He seemed to be past caring. He was giving up.
Perhaps he'd try something different today. Perhaps he'd let someone else hurt him instead. That wouldn't be so bad. Perhaps he'd let someone else kill him. That wouldn't be so bad either. Rising from his shadowy labrynth of thoughts, Kinaki stood to his full height and started a slow, dogged walk towards the cave's entrance. Once, he'd been a handsome wolf, but there wasn't much left of that now. We fall hard We fall fast Mercy me, It'll never last

Lately the Moon lands had been a little more chaotic than usual with the presence of a certain wolf, one that remained in the shadows, only to be seen when striking. It was as if this certain wolf was a ghost in the night, revealing himself to make an attack, only to retreat cowardly back into the shadows. It was amazing how he was managing to be so discreet, that nobody had bother to get revenge. Then again this was the Moon lands. When did wolves ever look after each other, when did they ever make an attempt to persue revenge for another? Hardly ever. In a place such as this, it was literally survival of the fitest. It was your responsibility to look after yourself. But now there was an exception. For Anevay, there was always an exception. She was the different one, the one to make a move that most wouldn't. With Tallulah's vicious attack, Anevay could feel her anger rising. So many things had lead up to hatred so currently felt inside her. How Duke had disowned him, how she felt so unwelcomed among the pack that was just as much hers. Or had he forgotten how she'd done a fairly good part in taking over the DS lands? A snarl ripped through the air at the thought.
A sigh was released afterwards as she moved towards the prominent smell, the one she'd been tracking for hours now. Now was her time to get her revenge, to release her anger. She'd tried releasing it on Duke, but apparently he refused to fight. But oh, how she'd love to rake her claws against his face. She moved through the forest, almost as stealthily as a lion stalking it's prey. Technically, that was exactly what she was doing, stalking her prey, seeking out her revenge, and outlet for her anger. She paused mid-step as the scent became surprisingly strong. Her ears flicked forward in anticipation as her paw hit the ground. A malicious smile spread across her maw, the anitcipation of a fight causing her heart to beat furiously, forcing the adrenaline filled blood swiftly through her veins. Just as she was approaching the cave which consisted of the male's scent, her eyes began to take in his form as he was just exiting. Oh, what perfect timing. It was as if a higher power was planning this exactly to her advantage. "Off to make another attack?" she questioned, her words dagger sharp and icy. Her muscles had tensed instinctively, the fur on her neck and back bristling in caution. She wasn't sure of his abilities to fight, but Anevay was confident in her own. She would take on the world standing strong, never admitting defeat unless her heart stopped beating. Fighting was what she lived for, what she took immense pleasure in. It gave her a rush that she was unable to find anywhere else.
She trotted forward, her eyes narrowed and focused oh so intently on the male before her. This was the first time she'd seen him. Up until now, he'd been a scent in her mind, a simple figment of her imagination. Now, he was here, he had a face to match, and it made her anger all the more intense. Unfortunately for him, she thought. She was beginning to think that Tallulah wasn't the only reason she was persuing him. No, she was going to fight this brute for several reasons. Those being her anger towards what her life had become, her anger towards Duke and his inability to protect their offspring, and of course the attack on Tallulah, her youngest daughter. If she'd been there it would have never happened. A growl rumbled in her throat, caused by her anger.
"How 'bout you prove yourself now," she said, her voice accompanied by a growl. "See if you can fight off someone whose actually expecting it," she snarled. Without warning, she leapt forward, aiming for the throat of the male who'd just reached the entrance of his cave, probably never expecting an attack as sudden as this. [/blockquote]

Kinaki's body was world-weary. He couldn't really be bothered to live properly anymore, he couldn't really even remember the last time when he'd hunted for food properly, or had a full night's sleep. It was odd how easily the mind's decay could affect the body. He was nearly all muscle and bone now, there was little fat on him at all. It didn't mean he was completely lacking in energy, but what he did have left in his body was a sort of hollow energy that defiantly clung on to life, although his concious mind cared little for it. Instinct, like scraps of material that were fraying away due to rough, uncaring treatment.
His senses had been quite deadened by the fact that he wasn't looking after himself properly, and also due to the fact that he spent most of his time alone, in Riverrush cave. His ears barely flickered at the sharp sound of Anevay's footsteps on the cold stone floor, and the noise hardly registered in his brain. His nose was just about aware of a foreign scent, but it didn't care one jot what it was. His eyes however, did see Anevay coming.
Somewhere, buried deep down in his mind, a warning signal flared, but the rest of him didn't respond to it. He stared blankly at her, watching her mouth move as she began to speak. Words formed in the air, but they sounded warped to his ears and he couldn't understand what she was trying to say - the words wouldn't arrange themselves into sentences. However, two words did stand out distinctly. Attack. And then, fight. That he could do, he supposed.
Suddenly, she was leaping towards him and the world sped up rather quickly, as if someone had hit the 'fast forward' button. They'd pressed it too many times, because what had previous been much too slow was now far too fast. Anevay collided rather painfully with his throat, her teeth snagging on his skin before the instinct to defend himself kicked in. He wrenched his neck round out before too much harm could be done, but was knocked over backwards by the impact of Anevay's leap. With a feral, deep snarl, he lashed out with his back legs from his position on the floor, hoping to kick Anevay away from him. His dark eyes flashed furiously at her, warning her away.

Anevay could sense the significant change being made Kinaki as she'd leapt upon him. It was almost as if a switch had been turned on. Was he surprised she was there, and attacking? Bitterly, she wondered how it made him feel. Now he would get to know what his victims had felt before he so abruptly ended their lives. The tables were being turned and she couldn't help but wonder if he was regretting his decisions to attack and kill innocent wolves. Tallulah hadn't died, but he'd beaten her up pretty bad. Truthfully, Anevay didn't want to think about what had flashed through her daughter's mind, what emotions had run through her. All her anger was being finally released on this single deserving wolf.
Anevay's thoughts were torn as his hind paw came in contact with her vulnerable stomach. She snarled, and released, only to reposition herself off of him. When her body was placed on the side of his away from the paws that had inflicted a slightly painful blow. When she was positioned correctly, she plunged into towards the pumping blood that she could almost smell, nearly taste in her mouth with the anticipation. Her jaws had parted and then shut, ettempting to clamp down on the fatal jugular vein once more. [/blockquote]

The irony of the fact that he was being taken by surprise, just as how he'd attacked other wolves didn't really cross Kinaki's mind. He wasn't that logical anymore; his thoughts were pretty much a blurry, twisted mess, and nothing that could really be made sense of. Like a reflex, he was concentrating on defending himself now - he didn't really have time to consider what was going on, anyway.
Again, Anevay lunged for the jugular vein in his neck that his life-force was pumping through. He saw it coming this time, and had a little more time to react. However, this time, instead of properly defending himself, the switch that had flicked on his brain ordering him to fight his attacker, seemed to switch back off again. As far as he was concerned, he could let Anevay clamp her jaws around his throat and it wouldn't make much difference. He had to die some day, why prolong the inevitable?
With minimal resistance, he gave in, and a searing pain shot through his neck. Suddenly the sound of his blood pumping was incredibly loud to him, and he could hear every seperate heart beat. With a gasp he realised that the red fluid that kept his unwanted life going was spilling out of the wound that Anevay's teeth had just given him. However, that wasn't all he felt. As his tormented eyes fixed on Anevay's, a flicker of remorse seemed to run past them.
ooc; sorry, it's all a bit melodramatic, haha! [/blockquote]

Anevay could sense his defense system be turned on, and she'd already begun to brace herself for a counter attack when the switch had just turned off. Her jaws had basicaly fallen around the male's neck. Instinctively, she increased the pressure, the warm blood flow forming in her mouth. It was as satisfying as she'd thought it was going to be, if not more. With a snarl, she shook her head, tossing what she could of the male's body as if he were a ragdoll.
Deep inside of her she wondered if this had been a fair fight. He seemed to have almost...Let her kill him. She parted her jaws and lifted away from the gruesome sight on his neck. She stared at it, her mind almost blank but satisfaction of killing still running through her body. But she wasn't rejoicing in this victory. As of right now she was certain he'd either let her kill him or made it damn easy for her too. With that thought the satisfaction began to fade. This hadn't been a real fight. She'd expected him to put up more of a challenge.
With a heavy and angry sigh she turned away from him, the low blow on her stomach finally beginning to pain her. The adrenaline had made the injury seem not so bad, but she could feel it now as the adrenaline slowed in her veins. Well, at least now her pups were safe. That was all she cared about really...Maybe. Maybe she did just want to kill something. [/blockquote]

Being the Alpha of such a hostile pack, Duke knew well the sound of a skirmish. This, coupled with an irritance and boredom possessing his mind, drove Duke to follow the sounds of a fight overridden with the rush of the river water above the cave. Curiosity was not the way to describe it, for curiosity was far too naive and happy-go-lucky. Truly, Duke was just following his best sense- bloodlust. The scent of it was strong eminating from the cave, and then a more familiar one wove into it.
Anevay came into his sights, standing over the body of a dead wolf still smelling like a live wolf. Duke did not recognise the male particularly, but that scent... it reached him and made his blood turn to ice and then fire in a split second. It was the same scent that had been all over Tallulah after her attack. So, Anevay had finally proved she was useful for something, but Duke was angry she'd gotten there before him.
A deep growl rumbled in his wide barrel chest as he stood in the entrance of the cave, muscles tensing angrily. His dark eyes were hard and unforgiving, and any part of his heart he'd given to Anevay a long time ago was dead and gone. She probably hated him, but he felt only anger towards her right now as she claimed a victory that should have undoubtably been his.

Anevay remained over the dead body, dark crimson blood dripping from her greedy and glistening fangs. She'd done what she'd come here for, and yet it had been so easy, too easy. She'd expected something else from this, some life changing moment. For some reason she'd felt that this would be the fight that would finally fulfill the deep void within her. The countless fights she'd been in during her life was clearly not enough to fill that void. Would there ever be a fight that would fill it? To say the least, she found herself confused. She wasn't sure what she was looking for, but there was something out there that she was unconciously longing for. She just wasn't sure what it was. Still, when faced with a challenge, she only tried harder. So, she would look harder.
Anevay had been oblivious to Duke's arrival until the low growl reached her awaiting ears. A malicious grin crossed her maw as she felt her adrenaline kick back into gear. She turned away from her easily prized kill and allowed her gaze to slip over Duke's angry, grudge-holding form. A growl unconciously began to form in her throat, but it remained there, only to be used when necessary. Blackened lips peeled away from her red-stained, dagger-like teeth, challenging him with mere gestures. Words werent' exactly necessary. "A little late, Duke?" she questioned, her voice as icy as his anger. She knew what he'd come here for. To avenge his daughter's injury, and yet she'd managed to beat him to it. It wasn't exactly surprising seeing as Duke didn't know how to take care of a pack, let alone his own daughter. "I've done your job for you. You should be thanking me," she added, her muscles unconciously tensing for an attack she was sure was coming.
As she looked at Duke, she found it hard to believe that she'd once found love here. Maybe she'd been blinded by the fact that Duke was the only one who seemed dark enough to help her overthrow Xaka and steal his lands. With Duke's help she was able to win over the food-rich lands of the Stars and win it for a pack that they would start together. When she looked back on the moment, she felt disgusted. How could she ever be so blind? Poor Myu. She was stuck with him now. And after this little brawl was over, Anevay would make her leave. Start her life again as a loner. Just like before, when her life was easy, joyful...Fun. [/blockquote]

The rumbling growl erupted into a guttural snarl which ripped from between his glistening white teeth, and he lifted his head instinctively above hers, keeping it tilted downwards to cover his neck. Anevay wasn't likely to talk for long, and maybe this was why they'd once got along. That was all in the past now.
"You silly bitch, I've been a little busy," he snarled angrily, but there was a loud and echoing note of pity in his tone. "Got nothing better to do, right? But stalk through No Man's Land like some sort of obsessive, always seeking revenge for the daughter who, frankly, doesn't give a f*ck about you anymore. Who raised her all that time that you disappeared, Anevay? I'm the only parent she needs and I'm not delusional enough to believe she'll never get into trouble- I sure as hell would have avenged her with or without you here. You're chasing lost missions, you pathetic excuse for a wolf, because without me and my pack your life is empty and you have to face the fact you've got nothing now."
Now if that didn't set her off, Duke didn't know what would. Just to add salt to the wound, he smiled maliciously and nodded almost theatrically, an open invitation for her to charge. His muscles were tense and he was ready for an attack he'd long seen coming. Needless to say, he'd enjoy this.

She had to admit, the words stung somewhere deep down where she actually used to care what Duke thought. Just like them, that part of her was dead and gone and the sting was nothing but a soft, almost, relaxing throbbing. She moved closer, her muscles so tense it almost hurt to take each step. Her ears were flat, expressing her anger and challenging nature. She listened to what he had to say, amused by the whole speech and his attempt to crush what spirit she had left within her..If there even was a spirit. Quite frankly, she doubted there was.
"Oh, Duke, don't you realize you're only insulting yourself?" she questioned with an amused smile. She knew she was nothing, she'd come to that fact a long time ago. Having him say didn't change anything. "Or did you forget that you once used to be with this pathetic excuse of a wolf. Does that really make you any better than me?" The smile had faded and she'd reutrned his snarl with one of her own. Who was he to think he was so high and mighty? She finally released her growl, a low rumble that might possibly be mistaken for thunder. "And since were reminiscing, let me also remind you that it was me who came up with the idea of taking over the Dancing Stars Land. You wouldn't even have a pack if it weren't for me." He was probably so delusional that he actually believed he'd done it alone. He'd believed it so much, he was probably beginning to think it was true. Just another argument they'd have to fight through. He may not remember it, but she did, quite clearly actually. After Shaye had left she'd gathered the wolves, talked them into overthrowing the DS wolves. Duke had just been there to assist her.
"Duke, I thought you knew me better than this," she said, her tone holding unmistakable sarcasm. "Before I came here I'd been nothing. You haven't changed me one bit, this pack hasn't changed me one bit. I find it amusing that you actually think you had an impact in my life." With shoulders rolling, and head low, protecting her neck, she began to circle the brute. Her blood pumped furiously within her, preparing her for the ultimate battle. [/blockquote]

Duke laughed openly at Anevay, his chest and body heaving for a moment with loud, booming, mocking laughs. He looked back at her, shaking his head in what could only be seen as pity.
"It was all business, Anevay, all business," he continued to shake his head at her. He wasn't a wolf of many words, however, and she knew this. It had been a long time coming, but he had recognised now that Anevay and Duke had always been heading towards one thing- a final battle, a fight to the bloody, bitter end. With that thought in mind, he jerked his head to one side and cracked his neck in preparation before looking back at her. She must be thinking exactly the same as him.
"May the best wolf win," he snarled, and without any further warning he launched his bear-like mass at a wolf he'd once given his icy heart to. Like a tsunami, Duke bore down on her snapping and tearing at any piece he could reach with nothing but brute force and a year of surpressed anger.

Anevay smiled. Of course he would say that and nothing else. There was nothing else to say. She was right and he knew it. There was no possible comeback for the words she'd just spoken and he may laugh at her, but quite truthfully, she didn't give two sh*ts. Because she knew who the real Alpha of this pack was. But she was sick of verbally arguing, especially an argument that she'd already won. Anevay laughed as he very theatrically cracked his neck. "C'mon, Duke, this isn't a soap opera," she said, actual humor, and no hostility located in her voice. She was truly amused.
The neck cracking had prepared her for what was sure to come. She knew Duke all too well on the field of combat. Basically, the only thing he had was his massive weight. He could probably sit on her and she'd be done. Unfortunately for him, she had the speed and agility to move around his unsturdy and bulky form. His move was anticipated, and as his body was coming down to land on hers, she waited till the last second before slipping out from under him, his teeth only managing to clip her on the rump. She was getting a clear side view of him now and without any waiting she dove in from there towards his neck, jaws agape and anticipating. [/blockquote]

Duke knew Anevay's words weren't right. She'd never been right about anything, always trailing after him because she knew she'd never have the strength to run the Moons pack all by herself. She'd crumble under the pressure, that's why she hadn't tried to fight her way back into power. He knew one of them was going to die here, and the malicious and poisonous barbs of his subconscious knew it would be her.
He anticipated her agility as she'd always attempted to use it to her advantage, but he couldn't help noticing she was already injured from her previous fight. Still, Duke was aware this wouldn't be such an easy battle. He felt her evade him and then moments later she was attacking his neck, but Duke had grown up his entire life taking attacks like these. He'd learned to stomach them the hard way.
He let her sink her teeth into his broad neck and he snarled at the pain, snapping his head around so her neck was within range of his long white teeth. He could take the pain, he decided, as he focused on sinking his teeth into her neck in a similar matter. Two could play at this game.

As Duke took a firm hold on her neck, she heaved in a heavy sigh. Pain shot up and down her long, slender neck, but it was hardly noticeable. Her mind wasn't focused on the pain. No, it was focused on the revelation that had come to her with the intake of what could be her final breath. The thing she'd been looking for in a fight wasn't a triumph, it wasn't a victory over an unstoppable enemy. Somewhere in the midst of her life, her thoughts and feelings had changed. This fight no longer mattered to her. Now it was only the revelation and fulfilling it, and then ultimately filling the void within her. Between that and the excruciating pain in her neck, she began to wonder what had taken her so long to figure it out.
Her front legs began to buckle, but she went down slowly, as if giving Duke a warning that she'd be laying down now. If she were going to die, she'd do it with dignity. She hadn't put up nearly a fraction of a fight she thought she would and she knew Duke would realize that. But it wasn't because she was incapable, simply because she no longer cared enough about him, about this world and about herself. Let him feel victorious over a death he didn't cause. It was all fine and well for her.
She looked up at her killer, the throbbing of her blood being heard in her ears. Her lids began to close slowly until her final sight was that of Duke. Her killer and her first love. How ironic. Her life had taken many numerous turns and shifts and she'd never expected to go out like this. Yes, she'd expected a fight, but not one where she would sit down and give up. Duke had been right, Anevay had been right about herself. She was nothing. Life didn't matter to her. And at that moment she actually felt at peace. The lights slowly beginning to fade was like a dramatic exit at the theater. She began to slip into a never ending sleep.
She never would've thought that the one thing to fill the void within in would be death. [/blockquote]
