A dark mass of fur stood out like a neon light in the snowy Meadowland. He had laid down sometime ago, and had ajusted the the coldness of the snow. His head was rested on his paws, ears dropped down, eyes closed. Yes, Quinn was very deep in thought. He thought about the good times, back when he was with his old pack. The hard times, when he wandered around alone. The most recent times though, he was still alone, but it wasn't hard anymore. well, technically, he wasn't alone, but it seemed very much so.
Quinn hadn't come across a single wolf in the pack since he had joined, which wasn't all to long ago. Sure, it had been fine at first, but now he was becoming very, very lonely. No one to talk to, no she-wolves to flirt with. No fun, none at all. His stomach grumbled. He was hungry, but Quinn wasn't planning on getting up any time soon. No, it was Quinn's lazy time. It lasted from sun up to sun down, and started back up the next day. He wasn't planning on going anywhere.
FInally, Quinn opened his eyes to yawn. He had almost drifted off there for a moment. He wouldn't get any sleep if he napped now. He reluctantly rose to a standing position and shook the snow from his fur. Pacing a few steps foreward, he almost went to get a drink from a nearby puddle, but realized it was frozen. Another reason to hate winter. The only good thing about the damned season was his thick fur, which was horrid in the summer.

A frigid winter breeze had carried the scent to him, it was an unknown one, and one whose source had yet to meet. A growl rumbled in his throat, but he was simply not angered enough to admit it. No, he was just bothered. Whoever it was, they were clearly trespassing. They hadn't howled for acceptance into the pack as far as he was concerned. Unless, of course, Eva had accepted him. But even so, his scent stood out among his lands, among the thing that smelled of him. Gathering his muscles, he propelled himself forward off his hind legs, catching himself with his front and continuing the gallop until he was shooting gracefully across the meadow.
He slowed to a walk as the male came into view. He allowed his gaze to sweep over the male's features, though he knew he wouldn't be able to derive anything from him, not his personality, his name, nor his reason for being here. He cleared his throat to be acknowledged and moved forward at a slow walk. Naturally, he found himself getting territorial, which was normal when it came to males. Sure, females were another threat but males were wolves he had slight troubnle communicating with. "Hello," he said, speaking for the first time, his voice gruff, but holding slight welcome within it's confines. "I'm Caden, and you are?" he questioned. Maybe he sounded a little rude, but he was still kind of irked from the trespassing that had ocurred. "Did Eva welcome you to the pack yet, or were you looking for me?" he questioned, tipping his head slightly to the side. [/size][/blockquote]

OoC: Hiiiiiya ;D I'm a little rusty. K'tarni had never really found her place in the pack.
The excitement she had felt upon gaining acceptance into the Stars was short lived after she realised she was still alone. She found herself fading more and more into the background every day and since the coming of the frozen months, she found even her physical appearance disappearing from sight. She was nothing but two green eyes in a scene of white. Her soft white coat, which usually stood out against the colours of other months, seemed to betray her and hide her away in the snow. This didn't bother her as much as it could have a month or so ago, since then she had reluctantly accepted the fact that going unnoticed was becoming a way of life.
Thus, she found herself wandering around the outer areas of the packlands, checking for new sights or sounds - something to do! Someone to talk to. She had never really contemplated travelling too far into the heart of the territory, but today was different. Today she felt like a change. Her lithe body bounced forward light-heartedly as she entered the meadow. The large expanse of land was covered in a thick layer white and in the middle of this winter canvas she could easily pick out a mass of black fur.
She stopped in her tracks as she sized him up. She felt her stomach tighten nervously at the thought of confronting a stranger today. She subtly positioned herself behind a large mound of snow where a shrub or a small tree could have possibly existed in the earlier months and carefully peered around it. He seemed irritated by something, which intimidated her slightly but failed to fracture her curiosity over him. Her large green eyes watched as he moved to get a drink and realised the water had solidified. A giggle chimed from between the she-wolf's lips and rung out across the empty space. She hushed herself quickly as the thought occurred to her that he may not appreciate being laughed at.
A crooked smile etched across her maw as she took a step out from behind the mound. She halted quickly as another figure made an appearance. This figure was proud and held itself like no other, the alpha. She felt herself shrink back a little as he approached the male and spoke.
K'tarni did not retreat back to the outskirts of the territory this time, it was about time she made herself known around here. She stood patiently and waited for the situation to be resolved and the tension to ease.

Ooc:// Since it doesn't look like Kato will be replying, I'll just post with Caden. And sorry this post is sooo crappy. I'm in a rush, and I'm trying to get unrusted. xD The ivory colored female was nearly invisible. All but her eyes could not be seen with the winter backdrop that surrounded them. If it weren't for the small giggle that had slipped her lips she would've remained just another object in the background. Caden turned his head slowly, eyes narrowed ever so slightly as he searched for the source of the slight noise. Vibrant green eyes alerted him to the presence of the pale colored female. "You don't have to hide in the background," he murmured, a small smile of greeting slipping over his slender muzzle.
He pivoted on his hind feet and moved towards her at a slow pace. He studied her features carefully, but a name could not form within the barriers of his brain. "What's your name?" he questioned. Of course he felt guilty for forgetting one of his pack members' names, but he hoped she wouldn't mind too much. It was a bit hectic and confusing when he had to remember numerous names, and then match them with faces. He lowered himself to his haunches on the snowy forest floor, awaiting her answers. K’tarni watched carefully as she felt his gaze fall to her, her ears pricking forward as he began to address her. His voice was quite inviting, and unlike what she had expected, his face was rather humble and welcoming. She felt the tension in her muscles ease quite quickly “I apologise,” she replied light-heartedly “But I find it quite hard not to during the winter months.” She let another chortle chime into the quiet atmosphere as she looked down at her white legs. Her smile didn’t falter in the slightest as she watched her alpha close the distance between them.
She dipped her nose to him respectfully as he came to a halt. Her green eyes were clouded with curiosity as she watched his expression change; it seemed as if he was searching for something in his mind. She swallowed hard as he asked for her name - it really hit her now – how much of an outcast she was in his society. “K’tarni” She smiled, shrugging her shoulders casually. “And you are Caden, of course.” She mimicked his actions and lowered herself to her haunches as well, her tail coiling self-consciously around her paws. OOC; :P Thats okay! I'm brain dead at the moment as well. x(

He nodded in an understanding manner while taking in the color of her pelt. Her statement made sense. She fit perfectly into the winter scenery around them. He let out a soft laugh, hardly audible to the ones who didn't bother to listen closely. "Even so...You have a voice," he told her, his voice soft. He wasn't willing, nor ready to start a debate here with her. Truthfully he wasn't in the mood and just wanted to relax for the time being.
Caden smiled at the self-concious act in front of him. But he quickly wiped the smirk from his face as to not offend her. He wasn't laughing because it was funny, but simply because he found it cute. His head tipped unconciously to the side in a quizzical manner as he studied her. Although he was sure that at some point he'd accepted her into the pack, he couldn't exactly remember her as an individual. "K'tarni," he mumbled, testing the three syllable name on his tongue. Yes, he'd heard it before. It was nothing unfamiliar, but even so he would stay around to get to know her better. He watched as she dipped her head in his direction. He repeated her movements, displaying the same process she had.
"So, K'tarni, what brings here?" he asked, taking in her expression. He didn't mind her company. No, in fact, it was the complete opposite. But still, it was his duty to protect and serve his pack, and this was instinctively the first question he asked every one of his pack members. It wasn't just for her benefit, or for her sake. He would've done it for anybody. [/blockquote]

OOC; ahhh makes no sense, I'm watching lord of the rings and I keep getting sidetracked xD K'tarni pawed at the snow to try and thin it out a little. Her green eyes were careful not to linger on his face for too long. She breathed a soft laugh before replying "Yes, I know this." Her tone sounded distant "I think I've just lost it recently" She shivered as the wind picked up, her white fur tossed gently in time.
Her attention was diverted as she heard her name repeated by his own tongue. She glanced up, her face breaking into a bright glow again in reply. She remained silent as he continued to survey her and her him. Their first meeting had only been brief, and she could understand why he wouldn't remember her.
"I have always lived with just my family. I left because I wanted something new." Her gaze drifted past him and off into the unknown "To find love and adventure and just something interesting." She caught herself off in her little moment. She'd always lived her life sheltered by the protection of her family, she had very little idea of how the world really worked.
She let her gaze settle on Caden once more. She smiled silently and exhaled "It's been very different to what I imagined." her tail patted the snow lightly.

"Well, new packs can be difficult," he said, feeling slightly terrible that she wasn't making many friends here in the Star Lands. He looked at her from the corner of his eye. He couldn't help but smile as her face seemed to light up their surroundings even with the grey skies that threatened more snow. "At least you're finding it. You have a beautiful voice, you should use it more often." He peered down at his paws, his brows furrowing ever so slightly as if thinking about something, though truthfully there seemed to be nothing in his mind for once. The feeling was unfamiliar as he didn't often get it. However, it was not unwelcomed. It felt good to just let go, and forget his worries like he was doing now.
Her voice brought him down to earth once more, and upon hearing the passion and longing in it, he turned his head to study her. Such big dreams. Love didn't come for everybody and the ones that were able to find it, sometimes didn't realize how lucky they were. Caden hadn't discovered love yet. Not that he was looking, but every once in a while he thought about it. It must be nice. He released a sigh and then shifted his mind to the other things she'd been seeking. "Well I think you're bound to find all of those here," he said, not really trying to brag about his lands, although he knew they held something different every day.
His gaze met hers for a few moments before he looked away. "How so?" he questioned, referring to her last remark. Maybe his lands weren't what he thought they were. Or maybe it was something personal, something she had to deal with. He wasn't quite sure, but whatever the problem was he wouldn't mind helping make it right. [/blockquote]

K'tarni grinned as the male tried to lift her spirits. He was quite good at finding the silver lining. She nodded in agreement "Yeah, you're probably right." She shrugged and watched his expressions change, feeling her own expressions change as curiosity tugged at her subconscious again. She wondered what on earth he was thinking, perhaps as an Alpha he had a whole lot more on his mind than she could ever imagine. Her head tilted to the side and she released a light sigh, watching as it turned to mist and drifted heavenward around her face.
She turned her focus back to Caden as he spoke once more, reassuring her. The side of her mouth turned upward as another breath of hope filled her agile body. The fall of the snow had steadily become heavier during their brief conversation and she could feel the weight of it in her coat. "You think?" she replied blithely as she casually moved to her all fours. She allowed a laugh to ring past her lips once again, hoping to bring the conversation back to a relaxing level. She danced past her alpha carefully, putting enough distance between them so that she could shake the snow from her wintery pelt without showering him.
She turned to look over her shoulder as he spoke again, she could hear the worried undercurrent in his tone. She smiled and shook herself vigorously before taking a few steps back toward him "Well everything has always come too easily to me, I guess." She tilted her head and looked at the grey clouds thoughtfully. She had always been daddy's little girl, she'd always have everything done for her and she was never left on her own for a minute. Her brows furrowed as she looked back to Caden "I've always been social, being alone has been a strange thing for me." Her voice was thoughtful but remained light-hearted.
"Can I ask you something?" She smiled, giving a moment or so before she actually asked "Do you get lonely being the big cheese around here?" She laughed at her own terminology, taking another few steps back towards him. She had always pondered over that question - would you feel isolated with all the attention and respect and fear? She watched him quietly, not making a move to sit down just yet, her fidgety nature beginning to get the better of her.

Caden watched her move around the small clearing, almost as if she were dancing. Unconciously his eyes followed her every movement. When he realized what he was doing he looked away, peering at a large pile of snow. He wasn't nervous around her...At least not that much. He could feel an air of confidence radiating off her and surrounding him. Clearly her true colors were beginning to shine through her sky exterior as the tension began to ease. He swallowed and then smiled at her almost self conscience, but cute question. He didn't feel the need to answer her, however. If he hadn't meant it he wouldn't have said it to begin with. He just blinked, some how managing to make it an affirmitive blink while letting a smirk appear on his amw. He was beginning to feel a more flirtatious K'tarni surfacing and the realization that she wasn't as shy as she let on was overwhelming.
He listened to her statements intently, and then said nothing for a while. "Some have it easy," he murmured, his voice nonchalant. "Others just aren't so lucky," he told her, shifting his gaze away from the pile of snow and allowed it to lay upon her vibrant green eyes. His indifferent expression slowly began to transform into one of confusion. At first she had been shy but she seemed to loosen up quickly and easily. She didn't seem like the type to linger in the background. If he had to guess, he would think she was the type who couldn't stand to be alone. He lifted his weight off his haunches balanced it on all fours, before closing the distance between them, but keeping a few feet to seperate them. "You don't have to be alone," he said, his voice coming out soft and comforting. Natural instinct with him. He just constantly felt the need to comfort the wolves in his pack. Although it was common for him to portray these emotions, he felt awkward and stupid and shifted his gaze in slight embarassment.
Her unexpected question brought his gaze back to her. He perked his ears in answer to it, but she'd already started on her question. He laughed light heartedly when she'd finished speaking. That was an odd way of referring to the Alpha, but she'd gotten her point across, so it didn't really matter. He nodded slowly, but still continued to ponder her question. "I'm not lonely when it comes to finding company. It's a different kind of lonely..." His voice trailed off as he wondered what she thought of his corny answer. He wondered if she'd even understand what he meant. [/blockquote]

She raised a brow, still mesmerized by the facial expressions that continued to change as inner thoughts stirred beneath the surface. It was quite distracting for her, at least when she was trying not to seem so interested. She decided it was a good idea to focus on something else for a while in case he was getting a little unsettled. She hoped she wasn’t being too forward, she found that her flirtatious disposition could just as easily drive company away as could draw them in. She watched as a smirk suddenly appeared on the brown wolf’s friendly face. She laughed under her breath and allowed her lips to curve into a smirk to match. She made a conscious note to herself not be so... K’tarni-like around Caden (at least until he worked out how to counter her flirting). She smiled inwardly and settled herself onto her haunches.
She allowed her eyes to trace over his body as he took a few steps closer. ‘You don’t have to be alone’ she repeated the words in her mind before a soft, genuine smile tightened her face. It was nice to finally have someone tell her that. She watched as his gaze shifted self-consciously. Her tail patted at the snow gently “I know,” She said quietly, keeping her eyes on his face even though he was looking elsewhere “But sometimes you just feel like you are, even with a hundred others standing around you. You know?” The question was somewhat rhetorical but she still glanced at him to see if he had an answer. She frowned suddenly and blinked – she thought back over her words and shook her head. Strange, it had been so long since she had had a decent conversation. She looked up at him and her serious expression broke into a calm laugh.
K’tarni was pleased when he laughed, the wolf seemed like he needed something to ease the tension. “You have a handsome laughing face,” she commented out loud “You should laugh more often.” She grinned – she was sure that her comments would only manage to make the wolf feel more awkward, but not being so K’tarni-like was much easier said than done.
Her ears fell forward as he spoke again; she frowned as she tried to contemplate what he had said. It was exactly the sort of answer she was expecting from him – completely unsatisfying. Her curiosity urged her to delve deeper into the workings of his mind but her common sense told her otherwise. She tilted her head to the side “A different kind of lonely...” she repeated. She suddenly felt bad for asking and even worse for not understanding. She opened her mouth slightly as if to speak again but she closed it once she realised that no words wanted to form in her mind. She gave him a look that was halfway between sympathetic and confusion.

He peered up at her as the compliment left her lips. His muscles tensed, but he kept all emotion from his face. It was like she'd made a sudden transformation. The wolf he'd met only a few moments ago had been shy, self concious, lonely. But now, within only five minutes of interraction she was already changing. His ear flicked back in a quizzical manner. Maybe he needed a lesson on female behavior. To his appreciation, he smiled, his way of thanking her for the comment.
Caden didn't say anything for a while after she'd spoken. He seemed to be getting into some love-struck routine. Well, it was more a caught up in the moment type of phase. The only reason he was acting like this because he'd finally found someone he could relate to, someone who felt what he was feeling, someone who understood. Clearly there was some flirting going on around here, and he was determined to not let his thoughts and feelings get in the way. Although he was only getting caught up in the moment, the remarks she made was a bit unsettling to him and she seemed to see right through that. However he was determined to change this. He was the Alpha of these lands, someone who should be constantly dignified. He cleared his throat quietly, his head unconciously lifting to a geater height.
"I guess you know the feeling then," he said with a confident smirk, refusing to let the unsettling feelings make a display upon his face. With a sigh he pushed himself to his feet and paced a few strides before turning back to her. Another silence passed between them when the conversation began to die down. "You seem pretty confident with yourself when you start to get used to others," he observed, slowly getting to his point. "I don't understand why you'd be staying in the background," he murmured. He wasn't trying to offend her in anyway and so he was sure to make the tone of his voice soft and reassuring. Females were always so complicated, and he wasn't sure how she'd react. [/blockquote]

♥Her brow furrowed as he insisted on trying to work out her reasons for remaining in the background for her time in the Starlands. She rolled her eyes playfully before jumping to her feet and following his large footsteps, slipping past him and stopping in front of him in one fluid movement, a wide smirk rested softly on her lips."Well, I don't know anyone. I don't really know the rules or who I have to be scared of. It all comes down to my acute fear of rejection." She nodded as if to cement her statement and then lightened the conversation with a laugh. Always laughing. It was a wonderful way to cover up your deepest fears.
She took a few steps away from her alpha before turning her back and strolling off into the snow. She lifted her dark nose to the sky and sniffed the breeze curiously. She turned back to him with a frown "Another thing I hate about the snow," She said "You can never find a bite to eat." She let her green eyes trace around the empty white terrain. It got so boring after a while, white white white! She sighed and glanced at Caden to see if he hadn't been frightened off yet by her intensity.
Her paws picked their way back through the snow until she was a little closer, turning the conversation back to the topic of his interest "Anyway, why are you out here in the background with me?" She smiled "Shouldn't you be right in the middle of it all?" She shrugged casually before tilting her head as the curiosity followed her question. Her green eyes suddenly brightened as an idea struck her "You could show me around sometime" she exclaimed, her tail lashing at the cool air. It was an ingenious plan, if she did think so herself.

Ooc:// I had a burst of muse! xD Rejection. It really was a despisable word, a despisable thing. No matter who you were, it was most always guaranteed that you were going to be rejected somewhere, by someone. It was unavoidable and unescapable. It lurked around every corner, taunting and tempting you all at the same time. It was inevitable. So, why bother fearing it when there was nothing you could do to prevent it? There was always gonna be that question that would continue to remain unanswered. As much as you told yourself you didn't care what others thought, your emotional and mental state reacted to it. Therefore when someone rejects you, there'd be no way to simply move on with your life completely unaffected. One part of that rejection, the smallest part could affect, could change you if only the slightest bit. It was reasonable to fear rejection. Nobody wants to be hated or disliked, and so they fear socializing althogether. But the part inside every wolf draws them towards others. Wolves were natural pack animals, meant to socialize and the fear of being alone happened to sometimes be greater than fear of rejection. He turned his gaze upon her, wondering if he could somehow explain the epiphany to her. He cleared his throat to speak as she turned back towards him. "There's really no one to fear here," he told her matter of factly. If there was one thing his lands were known for it was the genuine kindness towards others. Caden liked to keep it like that, he encouraged his pack to always welcome and at least make an attempt to get alone with others. "Most likely everyone will get along with you," he added, deciding to add a bit that might make her branch out towards the rest of the pack, and not kill, but wear down her fear of rejection.
He smiled ever so slightly at her next words. She was right. There was never an abundant source of food in the winter, but spring was quickly approaching. Only a bit longer of scavaging and things should be fresh and new, especially the game. He licked his lips in slight anticipation, hardly finding the strength to keep his eagerness hidden away. "There's always No Man's Land," he suggested with a shrug. He pushed himself to his feet. He didn't exactly recommend No Man's Land as there was a mix of different tempered wolves. He wasn't quite sure someone as new as K'tarni would fit in well there. Actually he was sure, with the numerous loners, falling moons, and dancing stars, things were likely to get a little edgy there. Especially when everyone was looking and in desperate need of food. He kept this opinion to himself, though. Sometimes wolves needed to find out things for themselves, toughen up the hard way. She was in new lands now, and they weren't exactly all friendly. "There'll be more food, soon," he told her, his nose lifting to the heavon's to inhale the bitter wind that rushed towards him, sensing the breeze for any signs of prey. With a frustrated sigh he lowered his muzzle, unable to find the simplest trace of the smallest prey.
"I think I need a break from the middle of it all," he told her with a sly grin. Sometimes he'd prefer being in the background instead of having his whole life exposed in the foreground for all to see. He took a few steps away from her, his body feeling restless and cold in the simple state he'd been sitting. He wanted to move, walk, run. He wanted to do something. He gestured for her to follow, not wanting to offend her by not inviting her along. He smiled at her sudden outburst, her almost pup-like eagerness. It was cute, charming in a way. For the briefest moment he wondered how old she was. For all he knew she could be taking her maiden voyage away from her birth pack to settle somewhere new. He nodded, his smile running slowly away from his face. "I could," he said, affirming her suggestion. He wouldn't mind taking her around, maybe introducing her to a few of the pack members, just to get her situated. Some needed that little extra push to get them moving. [/blockquote]

OOC; Hooray for muse! xD She rolled her eyes as he spoke, his brief statement of reassurance was quite sweet. However when trying to coax the stubborn mind of a wolf like K'tarni, it took much more than a few heartfelt words, even if it was from the alpha himself. Her brows fell together, but only very lightly. He seemed to take everything she said much more seriously than she ever seemed to expect. She pondered in silence as he spoke and moved around her. Her face remained blank, but still retained it's usual warmth and charm as she listened to his insightful and slightly obvious statements. She raised a quizzical brow before releasing a soft melodious laugh. "I'm sure you're right," She said with a skeptical glint in her eye "Thank you." Her thanks were genuine and steadfast; she was honestly appreciative of the efforts he seemed to go to to convince her that she was okay.
At his gesture, she obediently moved toward him. Her emerald eyes glistened against her ivory face like two gems as they peered at the mass of brown fur that stood a few steps before her. His reserved nature only managed to irk her all the more when it came to small talk like this. She dawdled behind him for a moment as she gathered her thoughts and questions and neatly compiled them in her mind. She quickened her gate and found a comfortable place beside him as he walked. She smiled as he agreed to tour her around the territory and nodded. She decided that a nod was all the reply that was needed and allowed a brief moment of silence to engulf them.
She lifted her head to get a better look at where they were going. Her eyes carefully traced over each aspect of the land, catching a glimpse of movement in the near distance - a rabbit? A bird? This turned her thoughts back to her stomach and the coming season of plenty. She licked her lips subtly. Springtime was the best time, in her opinion "Spring time is worth the wait. I think I will give No Man's Land a miss," she said distastefully, she hadn't run into many vicious strangers but she could sure feel the vibe in the air of No Man's Land, it certainly wasn't a friendly place "Now that I'm safe and being very well looked after, that is." She glanced across at the male and allowed the faintest trace of a coy smile inch across her lips.
After a while she spoke again, attaining a more serious manner "I can tell that you need a break," She began, her voice holding the faintest trace of mischief "You are always analysing, always concerned." She said, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye to make sure he wasn't offended. She released a sigh and then smiled to herself "I guess that’s part of the job, huh." She lowered her gaze back to the snow and watched as it disappeared behind each footstep.
