Narrowed eyes peered up at the bright skies above, noting the change from grey to blue. The coming of spring was getting Caden a little anxious. He was in a good mood with the warm weather and bright skies. He was slowly beginning to drop his worries for the time being and secretly he hoped someone would wander by and share the mood with him.
His eyes were focused on the path ahead, his paws finding their way easily through the slush that had melted. The slush wasn't exactly welcomed but it was certainly better than the many feet of snow they had had to trek through all winter long. An audible breath was sucked into the blackened caves of his nostrils, enjoying the fresh scent of spring. The smell of the pines were more prominent now and in the distance he could smell a small herd of deer romping, also enjoying the spring weather.
With a smile tugging at the corners of his lips, he picked up his pace to a graceful prance, his head held high. There wasn't much to do today except patrol. He was looking forward to just relaxing. After all when the pups came there'd certainly be more stress on all of the adults. However, even with the extra pressure put on, he secretly couldn't wait for the pups' arrival.
The smile began to fade as he pondered the thought awhile longer. Everyone would have spring to spend with someone they loved. Whether it be the pups, or their significant others. A growl began to form in his throat. Not because he was jealous but simply because he hated that he kept dwelling on the fact that he'd be alone. He had a whole pack to deal with. Maybe it was best he didn't have anyone to share spring with. Even with that thought, he couldn't seem to drop his thoughts. And they were quickly putting a damper on his mood. [/blockquote]

Spring was the sort of season which made a wolf feel lighthearted and cheerful - especially Sayuri, who had such an even temperament and happy disposition anyway. It was impossible not to feel a bounce within each step you took when the temperature was becoming more agreeable, buds were opening, and daylight hours were becoming increasingly longer. With the air so light outside, nobody (even including the troublesome Falling Moons) could possibly feel moody, Sayuri reckoned.
Of course, some wolves often felt a little melancholy at this time of year because they felt they felt they were lacking in the fact that they did not have a mate. However, in her young, slightly naive opinion, Sayuri reckoned that it was impossible to get too upset about not having any pups of your own, when there would soon be so many around anyway. What she loved about the Dancing Stars was that whether you were young or old, a mother or not, there was still plenty of opportunity to care for the little bundles of fur because when it came to looking after newborns, everyone chipped in.
Enravelled in her own thoughts as she was, Sayuri barely noticed the presence of another wolf in the area, until she heard Caden's low growl. "Oh," she said happily at the sight of her brother - she hadn't had much of a chance to talk to him lately, what with him being busy running the pack and all. She smiled and started to trot towards him on her dusky paws, barking out a greeting in hopes of a conversation. It was only then she noticed he didn't look too happy. Hm, maybe he'd have preferred to be left alone by his little sister.
"You alright, Caden?" she asked simply.

Caden had continued sulking through the forest, maybe making it too evident that he was doing just that. If anybody from his pack came along, he'd have to explain the whole thing and truthfully it wasn't something he wanted to admit to anyone, let alone his pack. Word would spread like wildfire. The slight growl still rumbled in his throat but he managed to keep it to a minimum. Every wolf had a time to sulk or be grumpy and it wasn't often that Caden was any of those things, but now was one exception. He should be allowed to get a couple of days of being able to do that, think about his instead of the lives of his pack. His brows furrowed slightly at that thought. No, he didn't want to not think about his pack. He couldn't. He cared for them too much and he wouldn't ever let them down.
A familiar voice sent his ears perking. He didn't need to look to make out the source. It was a voice he knew since birth. Even so, he didn't smile when she appeared, despite the fact that they hadn't talked in a while. "Fine," he said, his voice slightly gruff. His ears flattened at the sound. He was already beginning to take his anger out on others. With a pack member he'd have never talked like that, but he felt comfortable around Sayuri, like he could act however he wanted and he she'd accept it, knowing that he didn't really have anyone else to talk to. He released a heavy sorrowful sigh, and turned to look at her, a small, forced smile tugging at his lips. It was hard to stay mad when looking at a wolf who was constantly happy.
"Sorry," he murmured with a sheepish grin. Maybe he should also be careful how he acted around his sister. "How are you Sayuri?" he asked, eager to change the subject to anything that wouldn't lead to his own trivial problems. [/blockquote]

Even before his gruff reply of 'fine', Sayuri could pretty much tell that something was bothering Caden. Having known him from birth and grown up together with him, she could pretty much read him like a book. Even though, it was typical of Caden to try the whole 'pretend to be fine for the sake of the pack' routine, even in front of Sayuri. She didn't really understand why he always tried to hide his problems, after all, even the problem fixers have problems that need fixing sometimes and there wasn't any shame in that.
"Don't lie, what's up? she said bemusedly, with a light smile. She wasn't bemused at the fact that Caden wasn't feeling too great of course, more from the fact that in her opinion, it couldn't really be less obvious that he was fine.
"And i'm good thanks. But don't try and change the subject!" She half-scolded, in her rather matter-of-fact manner. Sitting down where she stood, she decided to make herself comfortable to show that she wasn't going anywhere - he wouldn't get rid of his persistent sister that easily. She wrapped her tawny tail snugly around her paws and looked at him expectantly. She hadn't had a chat with him in ages, and this was effectively her way of adressing the issue. Being the sort of happy-natured wolf she was, she wasn't affected much by others' moods, but she hoped that she had the effect of making them a bit more cheerful. Hopefully, that'd work with Caden too.

It was just like Sayuri to come around when problems started appearing. Part of him was thankful. If there was one wolf in this entire valley he felt he could somewhat talk to, it would be Sayuri. And then there was another part of him that honestly wanted to tell her to just leave him alone. His words wouldn't help how he was feeling inside. And normally he wouldn't linger on his small problems, but today was a bit different. After all, he just admitted to himself that he wasn't able to have a heart to heart conversation with anyone but his little sister. It was lonely to say the very least. At this point in time even a friend would be able to fill that void inside him.
He lowered himself to the ground before her, his eyes taking in the smile that so easily lit up her face. As far as he knew she didn't have a mate either. However within the amount of time they'd spent apart anything could've happened. Still for the most part he assumed she was alone this spring as well. And yet she seemed so happy, like nothing in the world was going to bring her down. He half smiled at, not only her easy going manner, but also her positive and upbeat attitude. He looked up to it and wished he was able to feel the same way. His ears swiveled as her words reached them. Her curiousity slightly irked him. But only because he was embarassed to reveal what was actually bothering him.
He rolled his eyes playfully. She knew him too well. Then again, that was to be expected. With a heavy sigh he decided to reveal what was wrong with him. She wouldn't drop it until he did just that. He was optionless. "Just another spring alone," he muttered matter of factly. He braced himself for some sort of sympathy, pity, or even empathy. He wasn't looking, nor did he want, either one of them. He just wanted to spend an hour or two alone, dwelling in the loneliness. Then he'd be up on his feet, and fine. He'd be able to talk himself out of the slight pain he was feeling and everything would be okay. He was positive he was overreacting about this anyway. He was sure he wasn't the only wolf to be spending spring alone. [/blockquote]

"Oh. Hummm. Well, Sayuri started, pondering out loud in her slightly simplistic, rather blithe way. She wasn't the sort of wolf who'd keep her thoughts locked up to herself unless it would do someone harm for her not to say them out loud - it wasn't in her nature to be devious or sly or secretive in any way. She was the sort of wolf who liked things to be out in the open on the whole, whether it was strong emotion or just a simple, pondering 'hmm'.
As her brother lowered himself to sit down on the leafy forest floor, her cheerful eyes followed his movement. She supposed that being an Alpha must be an awful burden, although overall, Caden carried such a burden very well. However, sometimes perhaps she mistook his way of dealing with all his responsibilities, he probably found it harder than she took for granted. It was fair enough that he wanted a mate, it would probably simplify the difficulties of being a lone Alpha at least.
"Well, I suppose someone will come along when it's the right time," she continued to say, her voice honest with the genuine belief that when it was the right time, the right wolf would appear. She wasn't going to try and tell him that it was fun spending Spring alone, because sometimes seeing other mates together did have a disheartening effect on a single wolf, and there was no denying it. But she hoped to put a positive light on the predicament, at least. "When you do find someone, it'll be even more worth the wait,"
[/b] she concluded sincerely. [/blockquote][/size]

He cocked an eyebrow as she pondered aloud, something he was used to her doing. When he really took a step back and looked, it was easy to see that the two of them were complete opposites. He liked to keep his true emotions and thoughts bottled up where she'd rather spill everything to nearly anyone just as simple as that. He wished he were able to open up like her, but whenever he tried it was as if a barrier was blocking the thoughts and emotions reaching the outside world. They would remain in his head and heart unless someone would be able to pry them out. Though, he doubted that would ever happen.
He said nothing while his sister thought. Though, he appreciated her effort, he doubted anything she'd have to say would make him feel better. But it wasn't as if he was really into this whole mate thing. He didn't need a mate, and yes it bothered him at times, but most of the time he was fine with being alone. It was only on rare, slow occassions when the feeling lonliness crept up on him. Now, was one of those times. He was positive it wouldn't be long before it passed though.
Caden's ears pricked as his sister spoke again. He nodded slowly. "You're right," he murmured indifferently. He shouldn't have even mentioned it to her. He felt stupid for drawing attention the rare feeling of lonliness when others had to go through it too. He said nothing for awhile, allowing his thoughts to envelope him when he came upon the thought of Sayuri. He was curious as to whether or not she'd be accompanying him in lonliness this spring. He felt odd asking her about it, as if he were invading her privacy, but still the question was one that couldn't remain hidden.
"What about you Sayuri? he asked, "Any special someone in your life this spring?" [/blockquote]

(NOT ACCEPTED YET BUT I'M BORED AND HAVE NOTHING TO DO. DON'T REPLY IF YOU DON'T WANT TO, FEEL FREE TO IGNORE ME)
Fuyu looked down from a high hill near the edge of No Man's Land and Starlight Forest. The sweet smell of Spring drifted around her. The breeze picked up and a new smell rose to her: Caden's scent. The aroma intoxicated every fiber of her being, and made her fur stand on end, her heart melted. She noticed the hint of sadness under the sweet smell. "Oh...Caden...What's wrong?" She wished she knew. Fuyu longed to be a part of the Dancing Stars' life, and a part of Caden's. An audibly wistful sigh burst from her. "Oh...Caden..."
