Anevay paced near the edge of the cliff...Maybe too close to the edge of this cliff, but she hardly noticed. It was as if there was a wall around her, blocking out the noises of the birds, the bugs, the wind...Life. She was completely enveloped in thought, a concentrated expression played on her face. Her brows furrowed, and her muscles rippled as she made tight turns over and over again.
If only she'd recovered faster. That was the main thought that kept racing around her head, ramming the sides of her brain over and over again. So many things could've happed while she was away. It'd been nearly a year. There could be so many things lost if she returned here. Although she wasn't really concerned about her position now, there was thing that seemed to be pulling at her heart, forcing her to come here instead living the rest of her life in solitude. And that was Duke. She let out a sigh at the thought of his name and then a growl. It was extremely frustrating to think that he may have moved on. That he probably did move on. A faint hope was what brought her here, lingering on the border of her former pack. And that was that Duke had waited for her.
But she knew better than to let her hopes get the best of her. In fact, she knew better than most. She let out a fierce snarl to no one in particular. If anyone, the sound that had erupted from her maw was directed herself for being so foolish, so caught up in this fear. She stopped dead in her tracks. Pacing around up here wasn't going to get her anywhere. Without a moment's hesitation, before she could change her mind, she let out a howl to her maybe-former-mate. And then resumed pacing, unable to contain herself, and unable to contain this restlessness, and nervousness inside of her. And now...The only thing to do was wait.

This was just getting eerie.
Duke's ears pinned back against his head, as if this was the last howl he'd ever expected or wanted to hear again, and he whipped his head around. He was close to the border of his land, but that didn't make him feel any better. He wasn't going to run- he would never run away from potential problems.
And that's just what this howl represented.
So he did not run away, but he ran towards it. Head on, blood boiling, all riled up. It had been a year, one long, broken, detached year. And she decided to turn up npw? Just after he'd settled things with Myu? He didn't blame her for surviving, because he realised she was tough enough for it. But now?
He paused as he reached the cliffside, the sound of the waterfall covering his heavy footfalls. He lifted his mighty head and watched the shewolf he'd loved for a good couple of years of his life, standing there.
sh*t.

As he approached, his scent became more and more prominent, and eventually, all other scents seemed to evaporate into thin air, and now his was the only one she could scent. Her heart banged in her chest, and for a split second she wondered if he could here it. Then a low growl rumbled in her throat. These stupid emotions were getting the best of her. When he finally came into sight, the growl immediately died down, and a brief shiver ran down her spine. But she was able to pull herself together, hopefully before he could notice. With a stiff, emotionless expression, she halted her pacing and faced him. Now that he was here, she wasn't exactly sure what she wanted to say to him. But she knew for a fact she was going to keep her nervousness, and the love she had for him out of it.
As he came closer, after years of being around him, she knew the expression off the top of her head. He wasn't exactly happy to see her. Maybe I should've never come here, she thought with a sigh. She spoke the nearest thought, next to him, off the top of her head. "Did any of the pups survive?" she asked, keeping straight eye contact with him. Looking away would undoubtedly reveal her nervousness to him and that was not something she was willing to risk.
He's moved on.

It was so strange seeing her. It was like she was back from the dead, his own personal hell reincarnated in wolf form. Still, he had to ask himself. If she'd shown up a month ago, would it have been any different? He'd simply been denying his feelings for Myu, they were bound to be together at some point. He was partly happy that she was alive, but well aware at how this would make her feel. And unable to deal with awkwardness, Duke wrote it all off. He would be gruff and detached as he usually was.
"Some of them. First it was just Rose and Tallulah. Then Onisim and Iris. Iris's son Taku did as well." Duke recalled, tone matter-of-fact and business like. He had to get on with this. He hoped, though, somewhere deep down in his chained up iceblock of a heart that she wasn't too hurt by this.
"I'm glad you're alive," he finally said, and it was the truth.

Anevay nodded her head in acknowledgement as he went down the list of pups that had survived. She thought of Seta, and released a sigh. He was one of her favorites. Lifting her head higher, she studied his expression carefully, her cranium tilting slightly to the side. There was something he wasn't telling her and he could at least have the guts to not beat around the bush, and just come out with whatever it was he wanted to say. But of course, they had to do this little song and dance and quite truthfully her anger, her hurt got the best of her and she could feel a growl rumbling in her chest, struggling to be released. But she kept her pride and dignity. She wouldn't get upset over him. He wasn't worth it.
She let out a chuckle as he mentioned his gladness. "No you're not," she said, her tone as sharp as daggers. "Don't lie to me, let alone yourself," she said, irises narrowing as she stared him down. "Obviously that's what you've been doing throughout the course of our relationship." Finally she could hold back the growl no longer. Anevay wasn't stupid, far from it, actually. She knew he'd had a thing for Myu, and she'd remembered being threatened by her. But instead of Duke coming right out and saying it, he had to drag her long with fake feelings. And she was the one hurt in the end. "So, who's replaced me?" she questioned, the pain of this whole situation not quite sinking in yet.

Duke raised his lips and growled at her. Of course he was glad that she was alive, did she think he'd wish death upon his former mate? Stupid, irrational female. Duke wasn't about to get mushy just because he knew this would hurt her feelings, as well.
"Think what you will, Anevay, I am glad you survived," he growled in return. Her last question was the one that he knew was coming, and if he had been any other wolf surely he would cringe away from having to explain himself. He was tear himself apart in emotional agony when he had to say a new mate's name when the old one was standing right in front of him.
But this was Duke.
"Myu," he let the word slip between his teeth with a sound somewhere between nonchalence and a hard growl. He wouldn't fabricate anything for the sake of her feelings.
"I understand if you feel like killing me right now," Duke shrugged, because he did think she would and he didn't doubt she might try. "But I'm not going to change anything now. If you want to see the pups, you're welcome to howl for them."
He turned around and began walking away, because she wouldn't want to join the pack again, surely?

Fox walked to the waterfall, his thick coat making him pant. He couldn't wait to get to the bottom of the waterfall, he could sit happily at the side in the shadow of the cliff and be sprayed by the waterfalls mist. He'd now reached the stones and leaves by the river, he could see the grey stone cliff face and the mist rising from the water 'beautiful' he thought to himself his heavy legs knocking the stones and crunching the moist leaves. He was blissfully unaware to everything around him, happy and content in his own little world. when he reached the waterfalls base he layed as close as he could to it without laying in the water, he faced the spray and left his tongue out and obsorbed the water. the spray darkened his pelt to a almost normal brown/orange. His bliss was tainted by a loud growl, he passed the first one it sounded feminine and had nothing to do him. it was followed my a more manly, menicing growl. He stood up looking at the cliff above the waterfall. he couldn't see anyone from were he was standing and didn't want to get to involved, but he had thoughts rushing though his head of a male taking advantage of a female. He shook his body of the dusty water and walked away from the spray looking up the cliff. "everything alright up there!?" he barked loudly and clearly over the rawr of the waterfall.
((Just egnore this if you don't want me in))

"Yeah, your facial expression seemed to tell me that at your arrival," she snapped, mimicking his growl with her own. Anevay had never expected him to show anymore emotion than he ever did, but still, the fact that he didn't even care that he'd lost her, given her up, actually...That fact cut her deep down. But, like Duke, she was notorious for keeping her emotions hidden. Her face remained stone hard, and her voice stayed as sharp as broken glass, its effect was to only be used to cut him like he was doing to her.
She let out a nearly hysterical laugh. "Ooh, shocker." Her ears flattened. "I don't want to kill you. That would just be a waste of my time and energy," she told him truthfully. No, as much as she hated to admit it, Duke was her first love, and probably her only. She could never kill him, never hurt him like he'd done to her. Sure, her anger was overwhelming, but completely controllable. She began to turn away, her ears pricking at the suggestion of calling the pups. But she continued walking. Now wasn't the time to see them when she was like this, weak and vulnerable. Her growl continued to rumble. There was no apology in Duke's little "I'm a saint" sermon. There was no "I didn't mean to hurt you." There was nothing to show that he was even remotely apologetic for wasting her time by coming here just so he could tell her he was with someone else.
But then again, this wasn't just his fault. She'd convinced herself that Duke was all hers, when really deep down she knew he had feelings for Myu. The one time she even bothered to take the strength to let down her barriers, and Duke sent right back up with more pain than she'd ever felt before. This was so typical. Her whole life she'd live by the motto that if something seemed to good to be true, it was. And she was stupid for believing someone might actually care for her. Her anger was immediately displaced momentarily to herself. But then just as soon back to Duke. He could've said something. He could've told her that he didn't love her, that he didn't care instead of just keeping her, making her believe that he cared, building her up, just to drop her in the end. Asshole, she thought fiercely.
Her auds flickered at the sounds of a male's voice. "It's common courtesy not to eavesdrop," she spat at the invisible, audible wolf coming from below. "Mind your own business," she snapped, and then picked up the pace at a graceful canter. She rolled her eyes. Now not only did she have to deal with the heartbreak of losing her soulmate, now she had to deal with the fact that it had to be spread around. Just like that, she'd lost everything: Her reason for living, her love, her territory...And all to Myu. I should've killed her while I had the chance, she thought with a growl.

'Guess I desurved that' he thought to himself, hearing pawsteps on the rocks going away he guessed those ideas in his head wern't true. He sighed and walked back to the waterfall. "Wonder what all that growling was about" he said to himself. he stopped looking at the waterfall. "Damn curiosity" he said trotting back the other way and carfuly climbed the steep cliff following the sounds of the pawsteps. Climbing up his eyes closed and he strained climbing up the slipery cliff face, 'bet theres a easyer way' he thought half way up and panting alittle. He stopped on a small ledge looking around. He started to climb higher and higher again till he reached the top before looking over the last ledge he said "anyone there?" then got his paws over the last ledge and began dragging himself up.

Anevay's auds flickered at the sound of the wolf's voice which seemed to be getting closer and closer. Snarling, she turned around, her anger, and mixed emotions flaring up a rampage. She could just barely make out the orange colored fur on the male's face as he tried pushing himself onto the ledge. She pounced, her jaws opening wide and then clamping shut on the scruff of the male's neck, fortunately for him, nowhere close to the jugular vein which would be fatal if she'd gotten the grip. With all her strength she lifted him over the ledge, and onto solid ground. She released, her lips pulling back, revealing dagger-like ivories.
"Trying to hear more?" she snarled at him, circling him suspiciously. She sniffed, instinctively taking in his scent. "I could've just let you fall down the side of the cliff," she snapped angrily. How dare this wolf eavesdrop on a very private conversatoin and then come back to hear more. She growled and lunged at him, her jaws snapping only inched from his fragile, slender maw.

Fox was greatful that she didn't push him back, but he didn't hear anymore than a growl. When she came towards him again aggresivly he closed his eyes and stood still and square, he didn't even flich, his breaths were slow and small hardly noticable on his body, "Sincere appologys" he said quietly. "I only heard growls and wanted to check no one was hurt" He didn't show any aggression to the female. nothing to cause her more anger.

She smiled, sweetly, sickly towards the male. "How sweet," she murmured. Rolling her eyes, her smile disappeared and she turned away from the male, stalking off angrily, her ears pressed back, and her lips pulled away from her ivories. Her muscles bunched and relaxed in ripples, her hackles raised high, and a very audible growl rumbling in her throat. This was merely a warning for wolves to back off for she was really not in the mood to deal with anyone, especially not now.
"A bit of advice...Don't ever joing Falling Moon pack," she snapped over her shoulder. "You wouldn't last five minutes," she added with a demented chuckle. She picked up her pace and headed deeper into No Man's Land. She'd let that male go. He should think himself lucky, for it was very rare for Anevay to have an easy kill and let it slip right through her paws. On a later date, he might not be so lucky.

Duke knew he should've apologised, it's what any respectable, good ex-mate would've done. It's what anyone with a heart would've done- drawn in a big breath, and broken his heart as he tried to explain the feeling of loss he'd had to go though.
But this was Duke, and he was no respectable, or a good ex-mate. Or a good mate, for that matter. And he would never apologise for breaking Anevay's heart because he didn't want to. Why put yourself on the line like that? Why make yourself vulnerable by admitting you'd done wrong? Stupid way to go about things. If you've done something wrong, fix it but don't apologise for it. And if it cannot be fixed, move on.
It was a cold, heartless motto but it was how Duke was raised. He watched the exchange with Fox take place, and stared at him with a low growl building in his chest.
"She's right." he chuckled darkly, but there was no real humour there.
