Bandit took a deep breath and composed herself again. She blinked once, twice, and then focused her vibrant amber eyes on Roan. She frowned slightly. It was obvious he was very deeply affected by what had happened, and she couldn't empathise. Not at the same level.
"I know what it's like to lose a mother," she said quietly. "Not in the same way, but it's hard enough. The thing is, Roan... you could let the pain of loss rule your life. And it's okay to be in pain for a while, it's natural. But there is so much world out there, or even in here... in this valley. There is still a lot to life that you will miss out on if you continue to live in pain," she continued her soft, quiet tone until she felt silent.

He nodded slowly. Roan knew she was right, and so attempted to make a smile to show he understood. It came and it went very slowly, but Roan was proud of himself. He looked at Bandit, a little spark in his eyes, maybe a sign that hope was returning, and perhaps a look of thanks. Bandit was amazing in Roan’s eyes. It didn’t matter how a mother died, it was still your mother, and it was possibly the worst pains in the world. He felt sorry for Bandit, and would make sure to say so, even if it wasn’t at this moment.
“It’s difficult. But I’ve been dragging it on for too long.” he said, more to himself, and the small smile returned again. Straightening his back slightly, as if that small speech Bandit had just said gave him strength and pride in himself. It was nothing of the sort, in fact, Roan was almost disappointed in himself. He had held onto that pain for so long, and now he had to let it go. He didn’t want to, it was difficult, it felt like he was letting go of and betraying everyone he knew. He suddenly wanted to change subjects.
“Sorry for your loss.” he said softly, knowing it would probably be an awkward moment if he said it some time later. “But… I think a change of subject is in order. How did you find the valley?” It wasn’t the most happy subject probably, but it was nonetheless. Roan was also curious as to what sort of fate brought her here.
